Having met at an Absolute Soiree and further connection through our Wednesday night chanting sessions, Clayton Frick and Graham Stoney decided to start jamming together to let off some steam and explore their creativity. Graham has been playing the drums behind Clayton’s raucous guitar and apart from several original improvised compositions having been born, they have been plundering the songbooks of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, The Ramones et al.
In this show, incidentally the last one under the Absolute Soiree banner, they will each perform solo acoustic segments presenting their individual work and then come together as The Freakstones (also known as The Stoney Freaks) to play some of the tunes they have been smashing out at the jams, though promising for the sake of our neighbours to leave the more raucous ones behind.
Graham Stoney gave up an engineering career to wander in the wilderness for quite a while before becoming a musician, comedian and therapist. In this show you will hear some of the songs and stories that have helped guide his journey of self-discovery so far.
Clayton Frick still practices as a structural engineer and most of his musical outings have been in the kirtan chanting scene, but all along he has been writing songs and by now has over 200. Describing himself also as a wannabe humorist, he will present 10 of these short songs as part of a dialogue with the audience, having been inspired by the reaction to his December 2015 soiree set.
Cost: $10 at the door.
